From Claudia:
Hi Everyone!
We've been living happily in Lusaka, Zambia, this past year and are planning on being here another year at least!

My husband, David, is Deputy Director of a John Snow, Inc., office that is advising the Ministry of Health on improving the supply chains for various health commodities such as HIV Tests, anti-retrovirals, and other essential drugs.

Evyn just turned 12 and is going into 7th grade in August. Aislyn is 6 and going into first grade -- both are at the American International School in Lusaka and absolutely loving it. I'm very impressed by the school and the community of parents that hail from 39 countries from around the world.

As for me, I'm taking the time to just enjoy my home and kids. I've made some absolutely wonderful friends here and we are savoring every moment of our African experience!

From Jim:
Hello MVHS Alumni!

It sure doesn't seen that long ago since 1978 does it?
After graduation,  I moved out to the redwood coastline in California,  and graduated from Humbodlt State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1983.  I got got married the same year to my current wife Kathy. We have one daughter Christina (born '88) and one son Daniel (born '91). After a few years in the business world, I joined the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in 1986 and plan on retiring from that in 2010 to pursue my true passion:  music.

I am addicted to the acoustic guitar and have recorded four instrumental CD's with acoustic steel string guitar and mandolin.  You can check me out online at CD Baby if you are curious!

Some of you may remember me playing with Roger Helton (banjo man) at various functions especially in our Senior Year.

I really look forward to reconnecting with my Mount Vernon alumni, I don't get to bump into anyone I knew from High School too often.  I hope to see you at the reunions !

From Robin:
I have been single again for 12 years after being married for 12 years. My daughter, Heidi, was born in Saranac Lake, NY. She and I moved back to Alexandria when my marriage ended. We lived around Beacon Hill for about 9 years. We are now living in New Market in the Shenandoah Valley. She is going into 8th grade in the fall and loves the school she is in. I am now working as a Home Health nurse and cover all of Shenandoah County. I have to do a lot of driving to get to patients, but you sure can't beat the scenery! I am looking forward to and hoping to see some old friends on Aug 2. See you all then!!

Beer Barrel Polka JK, Pure Parie League "Amy", Three Times a Lady. Any John Denver you can lay your hands on.
From Eddy:
30 years, man we are a bunch of old coggers. Just kidding, all of the photos I saw look like people who never aged. My wife and I celebrated our 25 wedding anniversary in 2007, we went to Hawaii (how typical is that) I fell in love with the place.

We spent 2 wonderful weeks hiking, kayaking, zip lining, and even had lunch at the bottom of the Kilheau Ika (like eating on a parking lot that needs repair).

Our kids are youngest to oldest Dylan 6, Colin 11, Tiffany 17, and Brittany 19.

Brittany is in her second year of college, her major is professional science.

Tiffany will graduate this year, and has already been accepted at Paul Mitchell Salon School.

Colin is a typical 11 year old, kills me all of the time on Halo, and even when I win, I have this feeling he only lets me win so I will continue to play, but hey a victory is a victory. Colin and I have gone panning for Gold, and found some, this year we want to go after Rubies.

Dylan is going to be the death of us, I have never seen a kid who could get into so much trouble is such a short time. This last year he had an unfortunate accident while opening a birthday present with a pair of scissor. As a result he has had to have 4 eye surgeries to repair his eye and remove his lens. He has to wear a contact lens in one eye now, but seems to be adjusting well. During all of those surgeries we only had to give him Tylenol once, because his eye was itchy.

My mom has moved in with us, after my step father past away last May. She is a blessing to Cindy and I, always helping out with the boys, and keeping us sane.

For those of you who did not meet my wife at the reunion #25, well what can I say, she is a remarkable woman. She has a demanding career with LMCO, and is still involved with all of the kids after school activitie, plays, soccer, as well as being active in the church we attend.

As for me I am tired after writing about my pride and joy, my family. Sometimes they get on my nerves, sometimes the kids make me want to scream, but I don't know what I would do without them. They are truly the greatest gift God ever gave me.

As for the picture, well, who wants to see me anyway, this is my lovely wife of 25 years sitting on a rock in Hawaii, me I am just the fat guy taking the photo, lol.

What song from high school do you most want to hear at the reunion?:
Stairway to Heaven
From Susan:

My husband is  Col. Joseph (Joe) Della-Corte, USMC Retired.  He retired with 31 years in the Marine Corps and is in his second career as the International Marketing Director for Raytheon in Fullerton, CA.

My son John, 27, is a very good looking Army Captain, previously stationed at Fort Lewis with a Stryker Regiment.  He was injured last June in Iraq when his vehicle stuck an improvised explosive device (IED).  He was seriously injured -sustaining a broken right ankle, shattering the bottom of his left knee joint, and had some shrapnel injury.  He spent two months last summer - as did I - at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington DC, where he received exceptional care.  Upon discharge, arrangements were made for him to return to CA to be home with us.  He has continued to receive excellent medical care at the Marine Corps Base at Camp Pendleton.  He anticipates a good review in May and will begin the process to leave the Army in pursuit of another yet to be named endeavor.  We are grateful for his service, as well as the fact that he is making a very good recovery.  He currently lives nearby with his longtime girlfriend and future bride.

My beautiful daughter Maggie, 25, is a registered veterinary technician and a real California girl!  She and her significant other and his little boy live nearby in San Juan Capistrano.  Josh, too, is a vet tech, working in a local day practice clinic.  Maggie works in Irvine at a critical care facility, and they both love their work.  They also tend to bring it home from time to time and have, as a result, two small dogs, three cats, and various fish and frogs!  Yes, they live in the animal farm, but it's a lovely, happy home!

I came to Camp Pendleton 14 years ago, where I met my husand, and have continued to work there in various capacities for these many years.  Camp Pendleton is the largest amphibious training base on the West Coast.  The Base encompasses 200+ square miles and supports a population of about 100,000 people on any given day.  The support requirements are equally large.

I began there as the Child Development Administrator; moved to the Department Deputy position; and I have been the Director of Marine & Family Services for the past ten years.  I have approximately 500 staff members, to include active duty personnel and civilians.  I oversee six different program branches that provide an array of services to our service members and families...and while we've been very busy these last five years due to the war and the recurrent combat deployments, I absolutely love what I do.  We also really like California!

My folks have retired to Florida, and we look forward to celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary - with a concurrent family reunion - the week prior to the MVHS reunion.  We'll also be celebrating my sister Jennifer's return from her second deployment to Iraq, where she will have spent the last 15 months.  She and her husband Jeff are both Army nurses.  Jeff and my brother John, also an Army officer, have both been selected for top level school and will begin a year at the Industrial College of the Armed Forces (ICAF) in August of this year.  Jennie, Jeff, and their two children currently live in Lorton, VA, and John, wife Susan, and their two children are in Ellicott City, MD.  Youngest sister Amy resides with her husband Greg and their six - yes, six! - children in southern Illinois.

There are days that it's hard to believe that high school is 30 years behind me...and there are other days when it seems much longer!  Life, all in all, however, is wonderful!!!

The "gang" has worked endless hours to make this a great reunion for all! Especially Karen, Germaine, Brian, and Mary. Karen and Germaine get the award for "most organized and email queens"!
